Apologies For Lapses In Posts - Resolutions! (Monday Musings 72)
The reasons are that I enjoy blogging, and it'll "force" me to think about pertinent topics to write about, which can also help with figuring out streaming topics.
Resolutions can be kept if we troubleshoot and remove foreseeable obstacles that can get in the way of resolutions.
The major obstacle with weekly postings, is not having a set schedule to sit down and write. As I'm not working on Mondays, it makes the most sense, after exercising, chores, and breakfast, to write my post on Mondays.
There's a possibility that I'll be working on Mondays, so the other free day I have is Friday, as the alternative option. I didn't know that Blogspot can automate the exact time to post, so Friday is a perfectly viable alternative.
My other resolution, I've been rather consistent, which is getting up as soon as the alarm clock rings, which I was never able to do since day 1, until recently.
I changed my alarm clock to an earlier time (from 7:00 AM to 6:30 AM) which will give me the time to exercise before work. I noticed my mind shuts down around 8 PM (I'm not a night owl), so why not go to bed earlier and get up earlier in the morning, during the hours where I truly enjoy activities?
Thanks to my Twitch buddy, who inspired me to pop out of bed as soon as the alarm clock rings, I've been more or less successful in doing so. He mentioned that he'd get up at 5:00 AM, exercise and do his chores, and has a couple of hours before he heads off to work to have fun. I was very motivated, because I would like to get everything out of the way as soon as possible, so the rest of the day, after work, I'll have free time until heading to bed!
I was surprised because last week, I actually exercised before work (the first time in decades), and today, despite not streaming, I also exercised!
In other words, I've been streaming in part because it forced me to exercise, but now I have internal motivation to exercise thanks to my Twitch friend! I very much enjoy streaming, but I now have more freedom to chose to stream or not (in the past, the major reason to stream is because it forces me to exercise). If I get burned out from streaming (which can very well happen), I won't feel guilt that I'm not taking care of my health.
In this way, I can truly evaluate Twitch streaming as a hobby I want to keep or not, and if I no longer enjoy it, I can leave streaming behind without feeling remorse.
What are your resolutions, and have you kept them? If you have, I'd love to hear about your troubleshooting.

As Long As I'm There...
Now that my 54's are back on their Volley & Bayonet/Morschauser style 3" unit bases, the grid is less useful than it was. I still had the measuring sticks I made a couple of years ago with brightly coloured 3" segments. It is easy to use and read in dim light even without glasses and also makes the grid less useful as long as all ranges and moves are in multiples of 3".

We Could Be Heroes
Age of Conan solves this problem by having players bid for the right to have Conan lead their armies, while the short lived Conan Collectible Card Game just lets every player have their own version of the Cimmerian hero when it's their turn, and Monolith's Conan adventure game balances Conan against a wide variety of arguably more interesting playable characters. Planet of the Apes divides lead character Taylor into four separate psychological aspects (with only limited success).
The designers of Samurai Jack: Back to the Past, based on the Cartoon Network animated television series, faced a similar design problem, and they found an ingenious solution. Players take on the roles of various colorful characters Jack meets along his journey, while Jack himself is a non-player character who adds an interesting layer of complexity to what would otherwise be a simple "race to the finish" game.
The game board consists of a trail of tiles representing different types of locations such as jungle, fields, or desert. Players play Movement cards to move along the trail, collecting Support cards along the way which will be spent at the end of the trail to fight one of several villains. The better your specific combination of Support cards, the more points you'll earn from the villain, so a lot of the game is looking at which cards are available at which locations, and planning your moves in order to beat your opponents to the cards you need for the most points when facing the villain.
This alone might be an okay game (if a little simple), but in addition to the player pieces, there are two non-player characters moving along the path, Samurai Jack and his nemesis Aku. Jack moves along the path first, his movement determined by drawing a random card. Then the players all move, and finally Aku moves using another random card. A separate board keeps track of Jack's sanity, and if he is on a tile by himself or with Aku, he moves a step closer to madness. If his madness tracker gets all the way to the end, all the players lose the game, so in addition to gathering the cards they need to win, players have to keep an eye on Jack, and occasionally come to his rescue.
The game manages to combine several different mechanical elements without any of them seeming out of place, and the graphic design and game components are miles ahead of what I would expect for a relatively inexpensive game like this: full color plastic miniatures, what looks like original illustrations rather than just screen captures from the show, and a sharp design sense overall. It all comes together to make a game that, while fairly simple, is entertaining to play and very true to its source material.
Rating: 4 (out of 5) a little on the simple side, but nevertheless an excellent, well-crafted game.

SCREAMER RALLY
Back in the mid-90s, the Screamer series was seen by many as the King of all racers. I remember many a worshipper of the PC master race sneering at anything a console could produce in favour Virgin Interactive's 3Dfx enhanced series. Screamer Rally is the franchise's third game but can the gameplay match the visuals?

Brave Browser the Best privacy-focused Browser of 2019
Out of all the privacy-focused products and apps available on the market, Brave has been voted the best. Other winners of Product Hunt's Golden Kitty awards showed that there was a huge interest in privacy-enhancing products and apps such as chats, maps, and other collaboration tools.
An extremely productive year for Brave
Last year has been a pivotal one for the crypto industry, but few companies managed to see the kind of success Brave did. Almost every day of the year has been packed witch action, as the company managed to officially launch its browser, get its Basic Attention Token out, and onboard hundreds of thousands of verified publishers on its rewards platform.
Luckily, the effort Brave has been putting into its product hasn't gone unnoticed.
The company's revolutionary browser has been voted the best privacy-focused product of 2019, for which it received a Golden Kitty award. The awards, hosted by Product Hunt, were given to the most popular products across 23 different product categories.
Ryan Hoover, the founder of Product Hunt said:
"Our annual Golden Kitty awards celebrate all the great products that makers have launched throughout the year"
Brave's win is important for the company—with this year seeing the most user votes ever, it's a clear indicator of the browser's rapidly rising popularity.
Privacy and blockchain are the strongest forces in tech right now
If reaching 10 million monthly active users in December was Brave's crown achievement, then the Product Hunt award was the cherry on top.
The recognition Brave got from Product Hunt users shows that a market for privacy-focused apps is thriving. All of the apps and products that got a Golden Kitty award from Product Hunt users focused heavily on data protection. Everything from automatic investment apps and remote collaboration tools to smart home products emphasized their privacy.
AI and machine learning rose as another note-worthy trend, but blockchain seemed to be the most dominating force in app development. Blockchain-based messaging apps and maps were hugely popular with Product Hunt users, who seem to value innovation and security.
For those users, Brave is a perfect platform. The company's research and development team has recently debuted its privacy-preserving distributed VPN, which could potentially bring even more security to the user than its already existing Tor extension.
Brave's effort to revolutionize the advertising industry has also been recognized by some of the biggest names in publishing—major publications such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, NDTV, NPR, and Qz have all joined the platform. Some of the highest-ranking websites in the world, including Wikipedia, WikiHow, Vimeo, Internet Archive, and DuckDuckGo, are also among Brave's 390,000 verified publishers.
